HAZEL HAWKINS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL’S LABORATORY AWARDED ACCREDITATION FROM THE JOINT COMMISSION
Hollister, Calif., NOVEMBER 4, 2021, – Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital’s laboratory (HHMH) has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.
HHMH Laboratory underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review from July 20 – 22, 2021. During the review, a team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated compliance with laboratory standards related to several areas, including document and process control, healthcare-associated conditions, risk reduction, and staff qualifications and competency. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
“Our pathologist and laboratory staff continue to work together to develop and implement approaches and strategies to improve care for the patients in our community,” said Bernadette Enderez, HHMH Laboratory Director. “I’m so proud of my staff in the exemplary work they’ve done, especially with the new testing procedures and increased testing capacity associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance.
“As a private accreditor, The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive, The Joint Commission. “We commend Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital’s Laboratory staff for their continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”
“We are pleased to receive recognition and accreditation from The Joint Commission for our Laboratory services,” stated Steve Hannah, HHMH CEO. “They’ve maintained the highest standards, therefore, achieving clinical excellence.”
